bday dinner and such

had a great time reuniting with cherry coke last night. it was glorious. i figured that the 31st, of all days, was a good day for it. food was so awesome, and i'm proud to say i got to have my awesome celebration at such a rad establishment. mama k's... gotta love it.

my bday cake, that wasn't ready til 1am, the morning after my birthday, was delicious. thank you dave and others for making such a yummy funfetti cake.

later, we made tim blog, and this is, no joke, the most hilarious expression i've seen. this was literally his face when he was trying to login. you're not THAT old tim!

alas, it is now friday and we are cleaning up before we hit the shops one more time and grill out a delicious last dinner. dave is making grilled chicken with grilled veggies and mac and cheese. i think there was even talk of a little angels in the outfield tonight. such a classic movie. this last day has been extremely chill. beach, midday movies, burgers. hope the evening pans out the same.

we are headed home all too soon it seems. but at the same time, a vacation isn't a vacation without the normal day-to-day for 358 days out of the year. lookin forward to tonight. looking forward to building up another year of reasons to get away from where i live! just kidding.

sort of.
peace, and see you all soon,
martin

Congrats to Tim

Congrats to Tim on his first blog post.

Tim and I drive back to the real world tomorrow morning at 8:30 am. It will be good to get back, but I'll miss the carefree lifestyle of this week. I look forward to my next vacation, hopefully sooner than two years away.

Good bye beach...

As we jump into the future, we never know what will await us...

What the H?

So I have no flip'n clue what to put on here! All this freak'n pressure to write something. Don't you people know I can't take the pressure!!!! It's like turning on the camera and telling me not to over act. What's going to happen? I WILL over act...is what's going to happen! Sweet moses, haven't you people learned anything? Regardless, it's my last night here in the OBX. So to sum up this week at the beach with some quality guys in one word I would have to say "incredible". It has been an amazing time getting to know each of them that much better and having some great laughs. I will chalk this up to one of my most memorable vacations. I am looking forward to the next year.

today was fun

corolla

scooter

jockey's ridge

now we're off to dinner @ mama kwans

Bronzer

"Sweet, then I can pick up more bronzer." - Preston, upon hearing we were going to Walmart.

Happy B-day Martin.

So my $100 Canon A 400 finally broke. Good old e18 error. I'm going to take it apart when I get home to try to fix it, but honestly it just give me an excuse to buy a new cam, which is nice.

We had DQ last night after Black Pelican, mmmm it was good.

We are now off to Corolla.

"Hey, there's beer!" - Dave, upon discovering a cooler full of beer.
"Oh my goodness, we are going to have to have a drunk night to get rid of all this beer" - Dave
"You all wanna have grilled chicken for breakfast tomorrow morning, we're out of milk." - Dave

I think we have a group picture to post later today.

bday shenanigans and ashley visits

well, scooter and dave finally gave me the present they started bugging me about giving me since 9pm last night. i'm a slave to tradition and surprises so i made them wait until today. they were good sports. at 10:33 they unveiled the prize. it was a tshirt of sweetness that just... works. here's my serious pose:

glamour pose:

here, you'll also see my sweet new dragon sunglasses that troy made possible, and finally the outfit is topped off with a sweet and thoughtful RUCA hat from preston. these guys, they're so good to me. i'm really glad to know them. not just cause they bought me presents, but mainly cause they buy me gifts, and i appreciate that. at the end of the day, it's what sifts through the colander of friendship. thanks so much guys!

this should be a day filled with grandeur and excitement. not for me, but for all of us, and hispanic single-family home owners across the nation. i hope for nothing less. we're gearing up to head to corolla, then possibly jockey's ridge before a delicioso dinner at mama k's! i'm excited. this week has been awesome so far, and i couldn't have asked for a better group of guys to go with.

it was also a pleasant surprise last night to have ashley come stay with us for a bit while she was in town. we had so much fun playing charades and hangin around the house. aren't they an adorable couple everyone?

anyways, i'm out. have a good day everyone!
peace,
martin

MMMM food, and Trip time

The food was freaking amazing... mmmmmm. Tim's the man, except he hasn't written a blog post yet.

After lunch we went out on the beach for a bit longer, it was nice, Martin graced us with songs about each of us.

Including The Preston song, the Tim and Steg song, The Scooter song, The Troy song and The Martin song.
Lyrics might be put up a little later, but no guarantee.

After that we hopped in the shower and drove the jeep up to Duck to save "hey" to Jessica
and check out the board shop she worked in.
Tim tried on some pimp hats and one other.
"Tim, You look like a carny in that hat." - Troy

I think we're hittin' up the Black Pelican for dinner. That should be yummy.

Girls love magic, right?

So most people would assume that girls love magic... Well, that's assuming it's not creepy random dudes, not doing the tricks right and video taping it.

More back story: So JT comes up with an idea of a way to spread the word about Abbott and West by doing magic for people on the beach, and leaving them with a card with A&W's myspace on it. Well problem is, you have to be able to do the magic first. JT breaks out the cards and I did one trick very successfully for the camera and Martin just to test out our idea, that's when I handed over to JT.

We were about to walk down the beach to start the magic show when Martin suggests maybe we should see what the magic tricks look like first before we go perform them. So Tim was our guinea pig. The trick was started, almost immediately Tim goes, I saw you switch the cards, he was right... trick #1 ruined...

On to trick #2, as the cards were gone through... I can sum it up with this quote "And this isn't your card, right" .... "Actually, yeah it is"... hmmm Try 3?

Trick #3. I forget what happened on that one, but that's about when I bailed as camera man on this adventure, even after realizing how hilarious it would be to confidently walk up to someone, and do a magic trick that didn't work... HAHA, that'd be almost as funny as running down the beach with towels tied around our neck as stopping at the lifeguard stand and proclaiming, "We're here to relieve you"

And now it's lunch time.. Tim's prepared some awesome chicken legs,

Caribbean Jerk, baby....

Cannot wait for it to be done... mmmm Grilled Pineapple too!

Because Dave won't

Tim made an amazing spaghetti dinner tonight. It was "too die for". Dave, Martin and I went on another run which was both fun and death... We got honked at, cause we're hotties. duh. Also while we were hanging out on the beach we ran into this girl named Morgan who went to JMU and was a nursing major. She had a Schnauzer I think named Amy. She was pretty cool and was down for the week with her friends too, so maybe we'll hang out with them at some point.

Pictures I found on my camera tonight...

I'm sure Martin will make a post about today's spontaneous 80's dance party/break dancing showdown... The pictures could get graphic... It all happened after my nap, let's just say it was a scary scene to wake up to, but then I had to join in.

Breakfast and recap

So this morning we all got up between 9:30 and 11am. Preston made me an excellent bacon, egg, and cheese, sandwich, it was freakin' awesome! We are out of milk, but a trip to the store will remedy that by tomorrow morning.

So last night...

Scooter tells us, you guys feel uncomfortable around the house, wait until we roll up and you have to get out of the car. He was darn right...
We pulled up in Dave's Xterra blasting "In Love with the 80's" by Relient K, and all started to pile out. That wasn't super awkward until we rounded the corner and saw the line outside. uh oh... 5 guys wearing shorts that High School cheerleaders wear strolling up to a bar... talk about a weird sight. What made it more weird was as we suspected and almost knew, was that no one else was dressed up in the slightest.

So we walk up to the door, and get our ids checked, Tim and Scooter held them for us, because those shorts didn't have pockets and Scooter had a convenient and stylish fanny pack. We walk in and start getting stares immediately. We got a few "nice outfits" and "wow, cool shorts". Next we rolled up on the dance floor like we owned it, at that point there was basically no one on the floor, we started breakin' it down, and the floor started fillin' up. We danced till about 1 something and then started to leave... some random girl came up and asked us why we were wearing what we were, Tim's answer was we are an 80's group and get paid to go to various 80's nights around the country and get people to come out on the dance floor, and Tim (undressed up) was out manager. She didn't really buy it, only because we were so cool. Too cool to be paid to do that.

That is all, I'm sure there will be other recaps, and scooter is still wearing the shorts, and it is almost noon the next day.

80's night

it's about to happen. we're excited. it took us a while to get used to the xlarge cheerleader shorts. they are pleasantly voluptuous, but we can now proudly say we're comfortable walking around the house in them. we've decided to post pictures from our pre-event warm-up session. hope you enjoy!

miss scooter

much like some of you readers out there, i miss scooter. i know what you're thinking. "well, martin, he's there with you." in some ways you're right. in other ways, you're stupid. because it takes being here to know that scooter has locked himself into the downstairs bedroom and is talking to his girlfriend on the phone.

i miss him horribly so i wrote a few haikus about it.

scooter is a girl
locking himself far away
from the rest of us.

scooter misses ash
i miss her, but at least i
am not locked downstairs.

anyways, thanks for reading my poems. you never know how much you miss someone until you've annoyed them with a video camera so much they're forced to hideaway in a secluded basement bedroom with the door locked.

it's really sad.

tearfully,
martin

discomfort with a seagull

I recently noticed that there's a seagull in the upstairs bathroom. Not a real one. A fake one. Sitting on the back of the toilet. Staring right at anyone who happens to be the room. It freaks me out. It keeps staring at me. Staring right at me with those beady little eyes. It's now turned so it's looking at the wall, not staring at me.

D-dizzle

Manic Monday Morning

Random quotes:
"my butt is small, but they fit around my legs" -Scooter (talking about Girls jean)
"I would be a gay German singer to be her husband" -Troy (talking about Elisabeth Hasselbeck thinking I was talking about David Hasselhoff's wife, oops)

So yesterday I realize how hard it was to model,
I stood posing for JT to draw me, it was a joke at first,
but then it got serious. Here it is...

We stopped by two cool surf shops, I picked up some board shorts (price tag said $38.99, but they rang up for $33) sweet. At the other shop I found some awesome shoes, I think I'm gonna get them sometime this week.

Last night was sweet, hanging out on the top deck (yes we have two decks) Dave, Martin, Tim, and I... funny/fun convos... Tim and Dave almost lit us and the deck on fire (maybe that's why they didn't want to rent us this house... haha)

Ok, I'm done with this blog, honey nut cheerios time... yum.

There's Too Much of It

Too many windows. They let too much light into the house. Can't keep all the light out. No curtains, no window-shades, no nothing. Can't keep it all out. Must...find...darkness. Must...find...a...visor! Must find a room as black as the soul. Too much light. Odd's fish, it will not cease entering the rooms! Can't...find...darkness. Can't...find...the color known as...DARKNESS! A visor! A visor! My kingdom for a visor! This light makes my skin swell with bubbling anger. Cruel...heartless...bubbling anger. Did I mention BUBBLING ANGER?!?!?! The light...it burns...like...a shrubbery, poison ivy even. Give me a liberty or give me a VISOR!!! The light. It will not cease entering the house. It's blinding me.........WITH SCIENCE!!! I must find a darkroom. Oh...thank you, Martin. *takes sunglasses*

why we aren't old enough for our beach house, and other beach antics on day 1

so the first day has come and gone and it was filled with mischief and wonder.

this house is sweet. we miss our house from last year, and it will always hold a place deep in our hearts. but i have to say. this house is freakin amazing. its like a 6 bedroom house, 4 baths, huge common area/kitchen. hot tub. 2 decks, oceanfront, dual car park areas underneath. its just peeeemp. and we have it by the grace of God too. the reason we aren't old enough for our house is cause apparently they only rent to families. a little strange, and a little hidden in our contract as well. although we're close, we're not family, and without some patience on me and dave's part, some quick diligent prayer in the rental office while they were on the phone with the property owners, and some sexy looks, we would be sleeping at the kill devil inn, or something equally as trashy. thankfully, with the help of the things listed above, and some more deposit on dave's very tired CC, we're good to go. thus, day one began...

me, troy, and dave ran on the beach today. for some reason, they convinced me to run without the old new balances i brought for the sole purpose of running on the beach, and for walking through any mysterious dark waters that i may have driven a jeep into while we're here. we started running and it was fine. until we started running into fields of dried sea straw, sticks, and shards of broken shells. then on the way back, we were high stepping so that our feet wouldn't scald in the 1 o'clock, peak of the day sand. they still hurt a bit. we fixed our idiocy by running on the path along beach road later in the day.

later, me, mikey, troy, dave, troy and scooter went to some surf shops so i could find some sunglasses. i forgot mine. plus i think they're gay so i wanted new sweet ones. we went to this new surf shop down here called coastal edge. we ended up staying there trying on sweatshirts, hats, glasses, and board shorts and asking each other what we thought.

the most fun part was when erin, our kind sales associate, walked down the sunglasses cases with me, opening each one, and offering advice, suggestions, and the benefits and downsides of each pair. mikey was like, "so where are you at school?" she was like "first flight secondary school." saaaweeet.

i ended up with a rockstar pair of Dragon shades. good choice. troy gave me a birthday present and hooked me up on part of the cost. it was very rad. it was the first expensive sunglasses i ever bought. i really like them.

we unwound tonight with some burgers, dogs, corn-on-the-cob and some vodka sprites with limes (of age folk of course!), courtesy dave. we're about to go crash the brew station for their open mic. see what's up. 80's night tomorrow night! it's going to be a good week. the weather's perfect. the mood is right... TGIF!! or should i say, TGINF.

you get it.
peace,
martin

We're here

We are finally here, and we are putting sunblock on to go out to the beach, more later...
